1. Write about your earliest memories of your childhood.
What was significant about this event?
2. Did you enjoy your childhood? If not, why not?
If you did enjoy it, what made it enjoyable?
3. Write about your most humiliating experience you had in school.
4. Write a description of your closest friend from your childhood.
Are you still friends with this person?
5. What was your favorite television show when you were a child?
6. Write about the home in which you grew up.
If you had more than one, describe them all.
7. Have you ever though about the meaning of your name?
Write about your name, how you feel about it, and what it means to you.
8. Write about the most important lesson you’ve learned in
life thus far. What is significant about it?
9. Write about a particular song that conjures up memories for you.
To what time in your life do you attach this song?
10. Is there one person you would like to meet? Whom would it be?
What question or questions would you like to ask them?
11. Do you think everyone has the potential to become a great person?
Examples would be people like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, or
Mother Teresa. What does it mean to be great?
12. What is your image of the perfect society?
What kind of government would rule over it? How free would you
allow the people in this perfect society to be?
13. Do you believe there is life on other planets?
Write about what life on other planets is like.
14. Write about how you have overcome a major obstacle in your life.
How did you do it?
15. Write about your most favorite holiday season.
Why is this your
favorite season? What positive memory do you attach to this season?
16. What is a hero? How would you define a hero?
What do you think goes into the making a real hero?
17. Have you ever experienced loneliness? Most of us have experienced it,
but how bad was it for you? Write about how deeply
alone you felt at that time.
18. Would you rather possess beauty, or brains? What is most important
in this life, to be attractive, or to have intelligence? What do you
think would take you further in life?
19. Whom do you think you are more like, you mom or your dad?
Write about the differences and likenesses of the parent you’re most like.
20. What form of technology would you be willing to eliminate
from your life? What form of technology would be impossible to life without?
21. Write about your favorite word in the English language.
Why is this your favorite word, and what does it mean to you?
22. Imagine one day there is a package delivered to your door.
You open it up and find something in it. Write about the best
thing you could ever receive in the mail.
23. Henry David Thoreau once wrote about living deliberately.
What do you think it means? Do you think that you live deliberately?
24. If you were stranded on a deserted island for ten years,
what three things would you like to have with you, given the choice?
25. Someday we all must face death. What would you like written
on your headstone? Would it be funny, or very serious?
26. Speaking of death, what do you hope to be remembered
for after you pass from this life?
27. Describe the most frightening experience you’ve ever had.
Was it a terrifying kind of experience or a fun type
(roller coaster, fake haunted house, etc.)?
28. Write about the best year of your life. What made it the
best year, and would you want to live it again?
29. If you won a $100,000,000 lottery, how would you use
the money? How much do you think you’d give to charity?
30. If someone offered you the chance to star in a feature film,
what kind of film would it be?
31. Which one to the five senses would you give up if you
have to choose, sight, hearing, taste, touch, or smell? Why?
32. Do you think war is always just, or unjust?
Explain your position on war.
33. Have you ever heard someone say they’re “living for the moment?”
What does that mean to you? Should we live “for”
the moment, or “in” the moment?
34. Can you describe the perfect day? What day would that be,
and what would make it the perfect day?
35. Do you feel you learned to really think for yourself
through your educational process? Is education for giving
us vocational skills, or to be rationally functioning people in society?
36. What is the worst movie you’ve ever seen? What kind of movie
was it, and what in particular made it the worst movie?
37. If you could have been born at any other time in human history,
when would it have been? Do you like the period in which you
were born? Why or why not?
38. Write about one thing in your life of which you are grateful.
39. Are you in love with someone at the moment? What do you
love about them, and how long have you loved them?
40. Are you superstitious? Write about the thing you’re most
superstitious about. Do you really believe in this superstition?
41. Do you believe in heaven? What do you think heaven will be like?
Do you think there are many paths to heaven, or just one?
42. Do you believe in hell? What do you think hell will be like?
How does a person make it to hell?
43. Describe a time when you felt grief and sorrow.
What happened to make you feel it? How did the
experience change your life?
44. Did anyone ever betray you? Who was that person,
and how did the act of betrayal impact you?
45. Did you ever betray someone? What was it? Were ever
able to make it right with that person?
46. What are the two most important lessons you’ve learned in
life that you would teach to your children?
47. Describe what it means to be happy. Is happiness a choice,
or is it controlled by outside circumstances and events?
48. We hear a great deal about the word “Love,” but do we ever really
see what true love is? What is true love? What does it
really mean to love someone?
49. What one thing would you change about your appearance
if you could do so? Why would you want to change it? If you did
change it, would it make your life better?
50. What would be the one thing you would like to do
before you die? Perhaps it would be to travel somewhere,
or write a novel. Describe it?
