Genealogical and Heritage Journals

If you are into genealogy and work on your family trees, a journal of study and research can save you HOURS if not days of work! I can remember working on a family line of my own, and I jotted down a little bit of information on a back side of a copy and promptly lost it. It was months before I came across it, totally by accident and I could have kicked myself for not including it in my research journal!!!

If you are a lucky one and you find an old journal in your pocession from a long gone ancestor, cherish such a glorious find. Do you best to transcribe the information to computer or paper so that the original work is not handled much. Contact your local historical society for guide lines on how to preserve this artifact of your family's heritage. And get started on your OWN journal RIGHT NOW! It's such a valuable tool for future genealogists. Just imagine how excited they will get reading about your adventures in employement or the time you had a child born or visited another country! Get started!

Here are some thoughts to get you started in
Genealogical and Heritage Journaling.

- Ask family members to see if ancestors kept a journal or diary. You might be surprised to learn someone is holding on to a treasure trove of family information!

- Handle old journals and letters with the upmost care. Finger oils and page turning can really damage a special artifact! Transcribe it immediately and then archivaly store it with professional assistance.

- Find out is other historical journals exist around your research time and location. You never know, your great great grandpa might have courted a young lady who diligently wrote in her journal all about that "handsome devil"! What a delight to find mentions of your family in other people's journals!
