Journaling
for Parents
I wish that I had been involved in journaling
when my dear children were born. I wish I had recorded the
thoughts and impressions that I experienced when they took
their first breath, or that wonderful feeling of holding them
the first time, or the first steps, or the first words.
As a parent, a journal of your children's
life and the impact they made in your world would be a wonderful
way to remember all the little subtle moments of parenthood.
You could record the joys, the difficult moments, the fears,
the accomplishments. Your record of your children's lives
will be a family heirloom.
Instead of giving a gift of a cute outfit,
quickly outgrown, or the latest clever toy for a baby shower,
why not get a nice journal and encourage new parents to record
their thoughts and feelings of the life changes that children
bring to us... what a wonderful gift!
Here are some
thoughts to get you, as a parent, started in Journaling.
- Try to make journaling a regular habit.
It can be difficult with very young children, however, make
time, even for a few moments to record regularly your thoughts
and feelings on parenthood.
- You don't always have to wax eloquently
on every entry! Shoot, during the early months, we sometimes
hardly have time to shower between feedings and diapers and
all the new changes! However, a few minutes can work to record
just quick thoughts and ideas that you can build upon later
when you have a little more time!!!
- Record the events of your adoption process
with new children! Encourage a couple who are adopting a child
to write their thoughts and record the events regarding their
adoption procedures. When the child grows it will be a wonderful
affirmation of just how much they are loved and wanted, with
their new family!
